WEBMay 29, 2014 — We are planning to build a house on our land in a few years and are at the beginning stage. So much work ahead of us which many of you are quite familiar with. We are looking for the least expensive and most logical option. We were thinking about buying a travel trailer or 5th wheel to live in while working on the land and having the house built.

Many are far from complete list and usually dont include doors and windows or atleast doors and windows you would ever want to really use in a house. Gary in Central Ohio.

A concrete slab will "float" as the ground freezes under it. not a problem for a barn. Trouble for a house. Pole barns have trusses 4 feet apart. Great for 2x4 and metal sheet roofing.

Then build an upside down umbrella out of PVC and some type of plastic, the bigger your umbrella the faster your container will fill.

I really get a charge out of his claim "students are also taught how to use "pioneering techniques" to build extremely good log homes for well under $5,000". Yes, I suppose its possible to build a log home for well under $5000.
Better to have multiple out-buildings or one big barn?
WEBJun 19, 2014 — DOLLAR wise, one large building per square foot will most likely be lower cost per square foot, over some smaller buildings, Smaller buildings lower cost over all by building, some would depend if you plan on pay as you go, or borrow a large lump sum and build big, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~.
Anyone used Amish builders? experiences good? bad?
WEBJun 1, 2005 — Good and bad experiences, generally pretty good. On large projects like barn restoration, stone walls and the like the amish and menonite crews did well. I would tip it to the menonites more. Prices were good to very good. Getting the job started could be slow. Once started, the jobs tended to progress very rapidly.
Metal swing-set frame - anybody built a DIY one?
WEBB 4-144" 2" pipe. Threaded on one end. Assemble the top bar in this order. Screw the "B" pipes into the remaining holes of the "T"'s and elbows. Drill 3/4" holes in the bottom of the "B" pipes to put a rod through and pound in the ground. it might be easier if this is done after they are screwed and setting in place.

WEBMar 2, 2020 — Septic, roads, solar power system, etc. Later on we hired someone to build a garage/shop and a guest cabin. But the initial buildings (cabin, two horse barns, machine sheds, loafing shed, various storage buildings) were done by us and our own hands. We only had a site location permit. ETA: and a septic permit.
