With a contract impasse over an esoteric clause regarding the potential voiding of the future years of his guaranteed four-year rookie deal, Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart has left the team’s mandatory minicamp. Because he’s not under contract, he had every right to leave if he wanted.
Overall, this would be a disaster of a move for the Bengals. The leverage they hold over Hendrickson, including his current contract, trade market, age and how unlikely it is he holds out into the season, are the same reasons they wouldn't consider a trade right now.
