It took the Yankees 25 outs to score against Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet on Friday night before they ultimately lost on a walk-off hit in extra innings. On Saturday, they never broke through against starter Hunter Dobbins.

On the very first Carlos Rodón pitch a Red Sox batter saw, Rob Refsnyder hit a ball down the left-field line that just bounced on the line and went for a double. While Rodón then very nearly managed to work around that, Anthony Volpe’s throw to first on a two-out grounder skipped past Paul Goldschmidt, allowing Boston to strike first.

The Red Sox have lost just one series since being swept by the Milwaukee Brewers at the end of May. It’s a stretch that features two series wins over the Yankees and with the chance to sweep New York in the second series, it could very well be what ignites this team to push for the top of the division.
