The Trump administration’s colossal cuts to the Social Security Administration in the name of “efficiency” are sowing chaos and dysfunction throughout the agency. Even attempts to fix these new problems are akin to rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship because they fail to address the core problem: staff shortages.
The Social Security Administration has sent a misleading email to beneficiaries stating President Donald Trump's sweeping tax-cuts and spending law eliminates taxes on Social Security benefits for most recipients.
With an effective date of April 25 on the SSA's communication, it means the 90-day grace period is up as of July 24. The north of 1,000,000 beneficiaries who still owe the SSA following an overpayment can have up to half of their monthly check garnished starting on or shortly after July 24 until the overpayment is settled.
