TALLAHASSEE — After an appeals court rejected his arguments, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier last week asked the U.S. Supreme Court to step in and at least temporarily allow enforcement of a new law targeting immigrants who enter the state without permanent legal status.

The Florida Attorney General is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the state to enforce a new immigration law while lower courts decide whether the law is constitutional.

The Florida law in question would make it a crime for undocumented migrants to enter the state if they had previously been deported or denied entry.
