A 'deadly' tornado has touched down in Alabama, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning that homes and businesses could be "completely destroyed" as the twister rips through populated regions

Following Tuesday’s storms, the NWS will be surveying storm damage across North Alabama. They plan to conduct surveys in Colbert, Jackson, Lawrence, Limestone, and Madison counties.

The National Weather Service says there is a Tornado Emergency for Huntsville near Highway 72 and Jeff Road. Madison County is in a Tornado Warning until 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A tornado emergency has been issued for parts of northern Alabama as a large and destructive tornado tears through the area - with residents being told to seek shelter immediately.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville Alabama has issued a Tornado Warning for Southwestern Madison County in north central Alabama and Central Morgan County in north central Alabama until 7:30 p.m.

An outbreak of severe weather will continue for one more day as it brings the risk of strong tornadoes, widespread damaging winds, hail and flooding rain to portions of the Midwest and South on Tuesday.
