The African Union on Tuesday welcomed the appointment of Kamil Idris as Sudan’s new prime minister, calling it an important step toward restoring democratic governance in the war-torn country.

As the civil war in Sudan enters its third year, the Sudanese Army have named former diplomat Kamil Idris as the next PM.

Sudan’s army chief Gen Abdel Fattah Al Burhan has appointed Kamil Idris, a former UN official and prominent diplomat, as the new Prime Minister of the country’s military-dominated government.
