The New York Mets lost 6-5 in the first game of their doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, largely due to a subpar starting pitching performance by right-hander Blake Tidwell. The 23-year-old allowed six runs on nine hits in just 3.2 innings and threw just 48 strikes out of 82 pitches in his first big-league appearance.
