Local groups from across the Coachella Valley, rallied together Saturday to a "No Kings" protest. They joined over 2,000 other groups across the nation standing against what they call "escalating authoritarianism.
Just days before large protests are expected to bring out thousands, the Palm Springs Police Department tried to ensure the events were peaceful.
No Kings rallies were held across the United States to demonstrate against the Trump administration on Saturday, including in the Coachella Valley.
In Los Angeles, 38 people were arrested downtown on Saturday night, police said Sunday. In Huntington Beach, police arrested a convicted felon they said had a loaded handgun.
Coordinated "No Kings" protests are underway from coast-to-coast, part of a "national day of peaceful protest" against the Trump administration that is expected to draw millions. Protesters in some areas braved wet weather to raise signs and chant slogans supporting the rights of immigrants and criticizing what they see as Trump's power grab.
Desert Society and other local car clubs are leading Marcha Contra ICE, or March Against ICE — a protest set to begin at 6 p.m. with a march from Rancho Las Flores Park in Coachella to El Super in Indio.
