The Mets revamped their bullpen by sending down José Castillo and Richard Lovelady for top prospect Jonathan Pintaro.

Glacier Range Riders president Chris Kelly knew a Mets scout had traveled to watch Pintaro make a Pioneer League start last June, and that the Mets were interested in potentially purchasing his contract, but by the time the third inning arrived, the scout saw enough to sign him mid-game.

Pintaro was born in Pelham, Alabama, and pitched from 2019-2023 at Shorter University, the small, private Baptist school in Rome. At Shorter, he had a 27-12 record with a 3.44 ERA and 377 strikeouts in his career. He set the school record for strikeouts in a season, with 150, his junior year.

The Mets went a few months without needing to make any pitching transactions. They sure are making up for it now.
