Sam Altman’s project that aims to scan the irises of every single person on Earth in exchange for cryptocurrency has made its debut in the U.S., even as concerns around biometric data collection and processing remain.

Sam Altman’s controversial blockchain project, World, is launching in the U.S. – and said it intends to roll out 7,500 eye-scanning “orbs” in cities across the country by the end of the year.

The eyeball-scanning crypto play had originally stayed out of the U.S. market amid a more uncertain regulatory regime.
