“Sinners,” which director Ryan Coogler filmed using Imax cameras, has been a force on premium screens. In Imax alone, the movie has added $12.3 million worldwide over the weekend, boosting its overall tally to $20.6 million. Those ticket sales represent 19% of the film’s overall gross.

At its Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo, Lucasfilm recently shared details of its next two theatrical release features: The Mandalorian And Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver, debuting on May 22, 2026; and Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, set for May 28, 2027.

That’s not the only record Sinners broke. It also became the first horror film to ever land an A from CinemaScore, and the ninth highest premiering R-rated horror film of all time, after familiar titles like It,
