As heavy winds feed the South Rim fire and other blazes in the western part of the state, a growing wildfire in Utah threatens to cross the Colorado border, according to emergency officials.

Governor Jared Polis on Sunday made a verbal disaster declaration for a series of wildfires burning in Montrose, Delta and Mesa counties, according to a news release.

The fires varied in size but have already forced several evacuations and pre-evacuation notices, closed a national park, and the Deer Creek Fire near the Utah state line has already destroyed at least five buildings.
