There are three parts to Google's new anti-theft plan, and the first is the plainly-named Theft Detection. If the phone believes it's been swiped from your hand by someone and they're speeding off on foot or a bike or in a vehicle (based on motion data fed through an algorithm), it'll lock the screen and ask for your password or fingerprint again.

If your phone is swiped, on-device intelligence will sense it and automatically lock the screen. Users will also be able to lock stolen devices remotely.

Google is stepping up its device security game for Android users, with long-promised theft protection tools that are beginning to make their way to select devices this week. Spotted by Android journalist Mishaal Rahman on X (formerly Twitter),

Google has introduced a significant security enhancement for Android smartphones, making them more resilient to theft. While the new feature won’t physically protect your phone, it adds a robust layer of security that makes it nearly useless to a thief if stolen.
