Immigration and Customs Enforcement is looking to roll out a controversial ID card pilot program for illegal immigrants as early as this summer.
The card will also replace locally issued identification and/or homemade notes some many have relied on to show their loved one has a developmental disability, officials said.
The program is free and open to Nassau County residents only. The ID cards will be produced on site and available in minutes. No appointment is necessary.
The IRS was responsible for developing and implementing the program to provide identification cards to about 150,000 employees at the Treasury Department.
