The department wrote on their Facebook that the suspect, Ahmed Basheer Awad, “wanted to turn himself in to police so there could be a safe and peaceful resolution for all involved.”

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (WMTW) - The South Portland Police Department has arrested the suspect in the Maine mall shooting. Ahmed Basheer Awad, 20, of Westbrook, was wanted on a felony charge of elevated aggravated assault in connection with the shooting, which left one person injured.

Public safety officials said one person was taken to Maine Medical Center and underwent surgery but was expected to survive.
