Natalie Darwitz of Eagan and Krissy Wendell-Pohl of Park Center only faced each other once in high school, but became teammates with the Gophers and went on to medal-filled careers with the U.S. women’s hockey Olympic team.

It’s the first Hall of Fame class to include two women’s players since 2010 and the first ever to include two American women. Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Poh were teammates at the University of Minnesota and on the U.

Long time USA teammates Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl will officially joint the Hockey Hall of Fame tonight.

A pair of former Gophers, Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl continue to contribute to the game that took them around the world.

Darwitz will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame along with good friend and fellow USA and Minnesota teammate Krissy Wendell-Pohl, former NHL players Pavel Datsyuk, Shea Weber and Jeremy Roenick along with executives David Poile and Colin Campbell.

Darwitz, a native of St. Paul, and Wendell, of Brooklyn Park, were teammates at the University of Minnesota and helped the United States capture two Olympic medals.

Pittsburgh Penguins amateur scout Krissy Wendell-Pohl was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday. She received the honor in recognition of her career as a forward at the collegiate level and international stage.
