KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) — Rwanda confirmed on Monday that discussions were “underway” with the United States regarding a potential agreement to host deported migrants. Rwanda’s Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe on Sunday told state media that the talks were in the “early stage.” When asked by The Associated Press on Monday, he confirmed the talks.

Rwanda confirmed early-stage talks with the US about hosting deported migrants. While details remain sparse, past reports suggest potential US funding for integration programs. Previously, Rwanda almost sealed a similar deal with the UK.

Rwanda and the Trump administration are in talks to have the central African nation accepted deportees from the United States.
