A federal mediation session failed to bring Teamsters Local 25 and Republic Services to an agreement that would end a garbage collection strike affecting more than a dozen Massachusetts towns.

If no agreement is reached by Tuesday, service disruptions could begin as early as this week in 16 towns where Republic Services handles waste collection.

Republic Services won’t pick up trash in Danvers until at least Monday, as the company’s union waste collection employees remain on strike.
