The US Geological Survey said this quake, whose epicenter was about 7 miles from southern Maine’s coastal town of York, was the strongest earthquake to strike the Northeast since last April’s 4.8 shaker in northern New Jersey, which was also felt across must of Southern New England, including Boston.

Several people felt an earthquake in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Rhode Island Monday. Professor John Ebel, a senior research scientist with the Weston Observatory of Boston College, spoke to WBZ-TV's Paula Ebben and Terry Eliasen about it.
Some callers to the York, Maine Police Department questioned whether an explosion had rocked the coastal town, said Sergeant Brian McNiece. ”Th
