Minnesota, along with Michigan and New York, are at risk of getting slapped with a 25% surcharge for electricity from Ontario​ if President Trump's ongoing tariff war doesn't end by Monday.

In response to President Trump’s latest round of tariffs this week on Canada, Premier Ford — a political conservative who once supported Trump’s policies but was re-elected last week on a campaign against Trump’s actions — vowed to retaliate with a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to Michigan, New York and Minnesota.

Ontario is moving forward with a 25% tariff on electricity exported to Michigan, New York, and Minnesota, despite a temporary reprieve on US tariffs. Premier Doug Ford insists the tariff will be implemented Monday unless President Trump removes all tariff threats permanently.
