Hiroshima on Wednesday marked the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of the western Japanese city, with many aging survivors expressing frustration about the growing support of global leaders for nuclear weapons as a deterrence.

The United States dropped the world's first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, on Aug. 6, 1945, during World War II.

The Japanese city, on which America dropped the first atomic bomb near the end of World War II, is commemorating the anniversary as global conflicts fuel nuclear fears.
