The Jim Larrañaga era is over, but the show must go on. Florida State men's basketball (10-4, 1-2) heads to Coral Gables to meet rival Miami Hurricanes (4-10, 0-3) Wednesday at 7 p.m. It is the first time since 2011 that FSU coach Leonard Hamilton will be coaching against another head coach at Miami.

Jim Larrañaga — a winner of 744 games — will step down as coach at Miami, effective immediately, later today, AP source says. Bill Courtney will be promoted to head coach for the remainder of the season. News conference this afternoon following team meeting.

Larrañaga was at the helm at George Mason when the Patriots made one of the most improbable Final Four runs in modern college basketball history in 2006. George Mason beat three top-seven seeds before taking down No. 1 Connecticut in the Elite Eight. The Patriots lost 73-58 to eventual national champion Florida in the national semifinals.

Florida State and Miami will play their first matchup of the 2024-25 season on Wednesday, but the opposing sideline won't feature Jim Larranaga for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Larranaga shocked all of college basketball by stepping down as Miami's head coach on December 26th after getting off to a 4-8 start with losses to Mount Saint Mary's and Charleston Southern.
