HBO Family, which first launched in 1996, is known for kid-friendly programming such as “Sesame Street.” ThrillerMax, which launched in 1998, specializes in horror, mystery, suspense and thrillers and runs a primetime film block called “When the Clock Strikes 10.”

Warner Bros. Discovery is shutting down cable networks HBO Family, ThrillerMax, MovieMax and OuterMax. The move, reported earlier this week by Cord Cutters News, was confirmed to Deadline by a person familiar with the decision.

Four years ago, David Zaslav clinched a debt-heavy deal to merge cable mainstay Discovery Inc. — which he’d run since 2006 — with what was then called WarnerMedia. The story he told investors was that the two entities’ diverse array of media assets “are better and more valuable together.” He doesn’t believe that anymore.
