Urgency mounts in search for survivors of powerful Tibet earthquake
More than 400 people trapped by rubble in earthquake-stricken Tibet have been rescued, Chinese officials said, with an unknown number still unaccounted for in freezing weather a day after a strong tremor rocked the Himalayan foothills.
Tibet is situated on the Tibet Plateau, which includes parts of neighboring Chinese provinces Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu and Yunnan. These areas used to be part of Tibet until Chinese rule.
Chinese media also reported that as of 10 a.m. local time, multiple aftershocks were recorded, the largest of which was 4.4.
