A confirmed tornado was reported Tuesday night in the Huntsville metro area as severe weather threatened much of Alabama, the National Weather Service reported. Severe damage was reported at Cliff Farms off Balch Road in Madison County but additional information was not immediately available.

The National Weather Service says there is a Tornado Emergency for Huntsville near Highway 72 and Jeff Road. Madison County is in a Tornado Warning until 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Residents across Alabama have been warned to "take cover now" amid a tornado emergency - as weather forecasters fear for communities including Belle Mina and Hampton Cove

The weather service has been flooded with reports of damage from across north Alabama and the northern part of central Alabama.

A tornado watch has been issued for all 13 counties in the Huntsville viewing area until 10:00 PM tonight.

An outbreak of severe weather will continue for one more day as it brings the risk of strong tornadoes, widespread damaging winds, hail and flooding rain to portions of the Midwest and South on Tuesday.
