The reptiles, an endangered species, were incapacitated when the water temperature plummeted after a rare winter storm hit the Panhandle last week.

Turtle rescues from Cape Cod are a regular event. The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary searches for turtles that get stuck in the cold temperatures.

Well, this hardly ever happens in January but in Gulf Shores, it's a perfect day for a sea turtle release. Folks from all over were there to watch what one person called "the coolest thing going."
