Reliance Industries Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd., Maruti Suzuki Ltd., Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd., Larsen & Toubro added to the Nifty 50 index.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a positive start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,303 level, a premium of nearly 31 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

Indian benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex ended the previous trade session in the red. Nifty 50 closed at 23,440.00, while Sensex ended at 77,378.91. On Friday, Wall Street indices ended lower. Asian markets were under pressure in early trade today.

The Indian equity market closed in the green on Tuesday amid favourable domestic and global cues, as Adani Enterprises was the top Nifty 50 gainer.

The Nifty 50 ended the session with a gain of 0.35% at 23,167, while the Sensex closed at 76,500 marking a 0.22% increase from the previous close. Likewise, the Nifty Smallcap 100 index rose by 1.97% and the Nifty Midcap 100 index concluded the day with a gain of 2.

Nifty 50 slipped below the 23,550 mark, marking a decline of 162 points to end at 23,526.5. The Sensex fell 528 points to settle at 77,620, as broader market sentiment remained bearish. Frontline indices lost nearly 1% each,

The market is expected to be under intense pressure with strong headwinds. Brent crude is above $81 per barrel, while sharper than expected surge in US jobs data coupled with consistent FIIs selling and Q3 earnings have taken a toll on the market.

Adani Enterprises, Trent, and BPCL among others fell up to 6 per cent on NSE. Nifty Realty, Metal, Consumer Durables bled among sectors falling up to 6 per cent. The BSE MidCap index plunged 4.18 per cent, while the BSE SmallCap index dropped 4.03 per cent.

Indian benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex ended on Tuesday with modest gains, breaking a four-day losing streak, as a strong rally in banking, metal, and energy stocks lifted sentiment. However, a selloff in IT and FMCG stocks kept investors cautious.

The performance comes ahead of the Budget 2025 announcement, with Q3 earnings, foreign investors flow and global trends emerging as key triggers currently. On January 14, 2025, the market is open despite the public holiday in many states due to the celebration of Makar Sankranti 2025.

In an attempt to regain control, Bulls pushed the Sensex up by 169.62 points, or 0.22%, to 76,499.63. Likewise, Nifty 50 jumped 90.10 points, or 0.39%, to settle at 23,176.05.
