LONDON (AP) — Cities from London to Moscow will be awash with parades, flyovers and memorials this week as the world marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day — the day Nazi Germany surrendered to Allied forces.

A national two-minute silence is set to take place on the Isle of Man to mark 80 years since the end of World War Two. The public has been invited to fall silent at midday on Thursday to commemorate the anniversary of VE Day and commemorate those who fought during the war.

Twice in the last two days, Ukrainian drones have threatened Moscow, but it is unlikely they will disrupt the Kremlin’s showcase Victory Day celebration.

Russia staged an awe-inspiring military rehearsal ahead of its May 9 Victory Day Parade, marking 80 years since Nazi Germany’s surrender.

Celebrations will be held all over Russia, with a military parade through Moscow overseen by President Vladimir Putin.
